amavis[12345]: (12345-02) (!)file utility failed: exit 1

Hi --

This is FreeBSD (9.2-STABLE, r256062), amavisd-new 2.8.0, and file 5.15. Mailserver including amavisd is running in a service jail.

After upgrading to file 5.15 recently, I do get warnings like shown in the subject line. In order to debug that issue I did replace file 5.15 by file 5.11, and well, now those waning messages disappeared.

Here my questions before filing a bug report for FreeBSD file-1.15 port:

1. Do others see those warning messages running file 5.15 at other OS?

2. Is it ok that file 5.15 is lacking a plain magic file, see:

   |mail> ls -al /usr/local/share/file/magic*
   |-r--r--r--  1 root  wheel  - 2769912 Oct  5 17:36 /usr/local/share/file/magic.mgc

   whereas file 5.11 has?

   |mail> ls -al /usr/share/misc/magic*
   |-r--r--r--  1 root  wheel  -  622016 Oct  5 16:28 /usr/share/misc/magic
   |-r--r--r--  1 root  wheel  - 2279632 Oct  5 16:28 /usr/share/misc/magic.mgc

3. Am I mistaken when believing that only file 5.15 (at FreeBSD) is to blame?
