Temporary MTA failure issue

As a follow-up to my own message, it appears I have resolved this issue.

I believe the problem was the result of the number of active amavisd
servers not being equal to the number of postfix smtpd servers.

Not sure how they became out of sync. I knew they needed to be equal,
but somehow don't recall changing one and not the other.
